The one currently on display is 4cylinder cranking something in the neighborhood of horsepower and lbft torque. In Europe, its supposed to shoehorn into the new Civic TypeR hot hatch. Id like to remind people that diesel fuel requires more crude and produces more pollution per _volume_ of fuel burned. But its not, by any means, proofpositive that hybrids are impractical.
Mileage was unreal for car that size. By mass, its not whole lot more efficient than gasoline engine, and has lower heat losses, even without the fact that the fuel has more energy the ratio of energy in the fuel and the energy produced by the engine is higher. Given that its coming to the US in an Acura and the RSX is dead, the next logical transplant would be into the TSX.
Im not slamming Hondas effort, or diesels in general only trying to remind diesel nuts that modern CTDI isnt trivial piece of equipment, nor is it necessarily more efficient or more powerful than other technologies _before_ we eight pages of people dumping on hybrids. Ive had Prius rental three times, an Escape once total mistake as was going out of town on the highway and Camry once. And what is heavier than diesel goes for asphalt, plastics and other products. City mileage is rotten, but on the highway, it does really well.
No dice there on the MDX, unless Hondas upgraded the mechanicals on the iDTEC, like the grafting of two more cylinders. didnt one have Fit, though, because couldnt afford Prius and the Civic isnt versatile enough. By mass, its not whole lot more efficient than gasoline engine, and has lower heat losses, even without the fact that the fuel has more energy the ratio of energy in the fuel and the energy produced by the engine is higher. Umm… Diesel contains heavier hydrocarbons, while gasoline contains the ligtest.
French and German cities are awful places to be during hightraffic times for this very reason, and its probably the telling indictment of low diesel taxes as subsidy to their automakers that France and Germanywho otherwise have very good environmental lawsallow this to continue.. The European sub2. 0L engines that people wax on about result in cars with 12 060 times. But its not, by any means, proofpositive that hybrids are impractical. I consistently drive like granny in the Saab turbos effect on mileage is directly proportional to ones right foot and can totally crater my mileage by flooring it.
