Even if the money is ridiculously hard to it sends good message and will likely stimulate other activity.. In recent speech Senator Barack Obama proposed that the Federal government invest 10 billion per annum in creating what he called Clean Technologies Deployment Venture Capital Fund. Your guess is as good as mine what that is supposed to mean, but the Silicon Valley VCs seem to be salivating, so one must presume it means that the government and by extension taxpayers will spend money to develop technologies from which they will profit.
taxpayers will spend money to develop technologies from which they will profit. The Federal government in VC role brings up all kinds of interesting questions, such as will such investments involve the kind of returns that VCs typically seek? What will happen if portfolio company goes public? Will investments be selected based on the merits or will this simply become vehicle for pork? In any event, its good to see the presumptive democratic nominee taking strong position on renewable energy. Even if the money is ridiculously hard to it sends good message and will likely stimulate other activity..
